 26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.

(3) The Spirit Helps

In Rom 8:26 26Likewise the Spirit helps us =

HELPS = Part of Speech: Verb

Transliteration: sunantilambanomai

Phonetic Spelling: (soon-an-tee-lam-ban’-om-ahee)

Definition: to take hold with at the side, to take a share in, generally to help

Usage: I lend a hand along with, take interest in (a thing) along with (others), assist jointly to perform some task, cooperate with, take my share in, help, aid.

4878 synantilambánomai – properly, to give assistance with full initiative because closely-identified – supplying help that exactly corresponds to the need.

(4) Rom 8: 26 We Need Help Because We Are Weak

26For 26We need such help because of our weakness, which is want of strength, illness, suffering, calamity, frailty.

Rom 7:15 expresses our frail weakness: (NAS) “For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.”

I won’t read the other translations represented here, but you can pursue them

ESV — For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

KJB — For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

NAS — For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.

NIV — I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

NLT — I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.

(5) Rom 8: 26–27 The Spirit Searches Hearts & Intercedes

Rom 8:26-27 26…For we do not know what to pray (exchange wishes) for as we ought…,

Praying involves the process of exchanging with God what you both wish; to happen or occur.  The process switches human wishes/ideas/desires/wants for His wishes as He imparts faith or “divine persuasion” that works in us to bring us to where we are comfortable saying, “Not my will, but Thy will be done.”

Jesus explains the “If-Then” condition that enacts this process in John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Wish In the NT is used in John 15:7John 15:7 John 15:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

ESV & NAS KJV = if you abide and my words abide in you

NIV, NLT = If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

The preface or the condition under which we can ask for whatever we wish and have God do it is we must be abiding in His Word in such a way that His Word is abiding in us.

In John 15:7 wish = is commonly used of the Lord extending His “best-offer” to the believer – wanting (desiring) to birth His persuasion (faith) in them which also empowers, manifests His presence etc. See 2307 (thelēma).

The preface or the condition under which we can ask for whatever we wish and have God do it is we must be abiding = awaiting, continuing staying in His Word in such a way that His Word tarries as a guest, lodging within us, continuing to be present; maintaining unbroken fellowship.

(6) Rom 8: 26–27 The Spirit Searches Hearts & Intercedes

Rom 8:26 …Rom 8:26 …but the Spirit himself intercedes for us (mediates and  pleads in every scene of our lives so we can “come in line with” the Lord’s eternal purpose) with groaning too deep for words” which means the content of the Holy Spirit’s intercessions works within us at a deep subconscious level that goes beyond human language, and includes bringing sacred mysteries into our daily walk with Christ

(7) Rom 8:27 The Spirit Searches & Does Surgery On Our Hearts/Rom 8:27 The Spirit Surgically Searches Our Hearts

Rom 8:27 27And he who searches (diligently examines) hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

The Spirit examines us from a higher plane to make a careful inspection to discover our real state in this lower plane, day by day to bring us in conformity to Biblical truth & God’s Will.

The Spirit examines all aspects of our status to view and weigh arguments and compare facts, with a view to form within us a correct opinion or judgment of God’s ordinances

Now let’s turn over to Jeremiah 17 with provides a dissertation on the deceitful nature of our dirty hearts.

(8) Walk Thru The Word: Jeremiah 17: 1-10 (ESV) “The Determined Dirty Disposition of Our Deceitful Hearts.

To paraphrase verse 1, we see that 1“The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron; with a point of diamond; engraved on the tablet of their heart, and … the sin effects their expression of worship, spilling onto the horns of their altars.  [bctt tweet=”“The Church must take right ground in regard to politics. . . God will not sustain this free and blessed country which we love and pray for unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are a part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God.” username=”LibertyCF3″]

So if we resist the surgical work of the Spirit explained in Rom 8: 26-27, it not only effects our interpretation and expression of worship, but it also effects our children.

Note vs. 2…  2while their children remember their altars and their Asherim, (carved image of a Canaanite, Phoenician goddess of fortune & happiness) beside every green tree and on the high hills,

Failing to protect the children from sin, which always involves & includes idol worship, causes the nation to loose it’s Godly heritage.

So, once the next generation has their consciences seared with idol worship, Calvin points out “The Prophet teaches us here … their sin had so much accumulated that … nothing remained for that nation but to be entirely swept away, because their iniquity was past recovery.

Judgement will come in stages.  The nation will lose its prosperity because of:

3on the mountains in the open country. Your wealth and all your treasures I will give for spoil as the price of your high places for sin throughout all your territory.

4You shall loosen your hand from your heritage that I gave to you, and I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you do not know, for in my anger a fire is kindled that shall burn forever.”

5Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.

7Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. 8He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green,

and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

Now what we see in detail in Romans 8:26-27 is proclaimed in Jer. 17:10.

10“I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

(9) Jeremiah 17:  The Deceitfully Diseased Disposition of Our Hearts Requires Surgery (Surgical Transplanting)  

So if we resist the surgical work of the Spirit explained in Rom 8: 26-27, it not only effects our interpretation and expression of worship, but it also effects our children.

Jer. 17:1-10 teaches us our hearts can be so hard that a diamond tip iron pen is needed to engraved on it.

sin seeps into our expression of worship, spilling onto the horns of their altars.

…2while their children remember their altars and their Asherim, (carved image of a Canaanite, Phoenician goddess of fortune & happiness). Calvin says, “…in the name of religion… they especially sinned against God… also corrupting their children by leaving them memorials of their own superstitions.”

Failing to protect the children from sin, which always involves & includes idol worship, causes the nation to loose it’s Godly heritage. (Godly inheritance, what God has bequeathed to you)

(10) Walk Thru The Word: Psalm 51: 1-13 (ESV) “The Determined Dirty Disposition of Our Deceitful Hearts.

the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

1Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

2Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

3For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

4Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight,

so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice.

9Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

10Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

11Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

12Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

13Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.

14Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.

15O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

16For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.

17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

18Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem;

19then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar.

(12) Rom 8:28 28And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

The reason God says in Jer. 17:10 10“I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds,” is to accomplish the process of Rom 8: 26-27 is to per Psalm 51: 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

If enough Americans submit to Christ and allow God to clean up our hearts to participate in 2 Chron 7:14, then God will heal our land.

If We Do 4 Things That Are Our Part …

Then God says, He’ll do the 3 things that are His part: 1) I will Hear from Heaven; 2) will Forgive their sin, and 3) will Heal their land.

(13) Evangelism & Discipleship Can Have Patriotic Outcomes!

Pray Conforms Us To Christ 

Salvation Baptizes Us In The Spirit

In Rom 6:3, we see God baptizes us into the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, which initiates us into the Family of God by Rom 8:12 tells us releases us from being 12debtors to sin, meaning those who owe an obligation to pay back or discharge a debt from having sinned against God) to the flesh, and from living according to the flesh (what merely is of human origin or empowerment which is displeasing to the Lord).

The Spirit Searches Our Hearts

Rom 8:27 27And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

The Spirit Helps Our Weaknesses

Rom 8:26We need such help because of our weakness, which is want of strength, illness, suffering, calamity, frailty refers to an ailment that deprives someone of enjoying or accomplishing what they would like to do.

The Spirit Switches Our Wishes

Rom 8:26-27 26…For we do not know what to pray (exchange wishes) for as we ought…,

“The Church must take right ground in regard to politics. . . God will not sustain this free and blessed country which we love and pray for unless the Church will take right ground. It seems sometimes as if the foundations of the nation are becoming rotten, and Christians seem to act as if they think God does not see what they do in politics.

But I tell you He does see it, and He will bless or curse this nation according to the course [Christians] take [in politics].”

(17) Let’s Pray that God ReAwakens, ReInvigorates & ReEstablishes Us in Our Calls In Christ!
