In Mark 8: 14-15 and in Matthew 16: 11-12, Jesus cautions His disciples to “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod.” 12Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”[bctt tweet=”One way that leaven affects us is that we fail to discern the common lie of “Man-Made Climate Change”,” username=”LibertyCF3″]
Mark 8:15 in the King James Version of the Bible says, Jesus “charged” them, which means Christ asserted His disciples are to be responsible to “watch out and beware.” The word beware is “blepo” and means “to have the vision to see and be alert to the dangers of what the leaven of bad doctrine is and will do.
Jesus says we must beware of how both religious people, like Pharisees, and government people, like Herod, will come up with doctrinal leaven, and we have a responsibility to be able to define it and understand what its ongoing effects will be. We have a responsibility to understand how it affects us a His disciples.
Leaven is the process of fundamentally breaking down and changing the chemical structure of that into which an agent is inserted and mixed, typically involving effervescence and the giving off of heat. Leaven metaphorically is what happens when little errors are mixed with God’s truth and vice versa.
One way that leaven affects us is that we fail to discern the common lie of “Man-Made Climate Change”, which we are exposed to every day. This leavens and assaults the Bible on two fronts. One it says that god is not a Good, Benevolent Creator who make our planet completely sustainable under His Dominion, which He delegates to us, and tells us in Gen. 1: 28 – 31, “28And God blessed them. And … said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.
When college students who are reading their Bibles through the leaven of the doctrine of “Man-made Global warming, hear these verses, they think, “The Bible should say, “We should be fruitful and multiply only to a point, because of “Sustainability.”
I ask “If God loves you would He tell us to be fruitful and multiply – if doing so was going to hurt us? I also challenge them to go to YouTube and see Patrick Moore, former cofounder of Greenpeace, say he started it in the basement of a Unitarian church, and then left it because it “became a political movement in which humanity became the villain and hard science a non-issue.”
To be disciples, who discern the leaven, and get lifted up in liberty, we need to read what the Bible says, and be skeptical about anything that says anything contrary to it.
