In Mark 8: 14-15 and Matthew 16: 11-12, Jesus cautions His disciples to “beware of the leaven [meaning the doctrinal teaching] of the Pharisees and of Herod.” Leaven is the process of fundamentally breaking down and changing the chemical structure of that into which an agent is inserted and mixed. The process involves effervescence and the giving off of heat. Leaven metaphorically is what happens when error is mixed with a little truth and vice versa. It makes one lukewarm or even cold toward the things of God.
It Dilutes Biblical Doctrine to Undermine and Destroy us as Disciples of Christ.
Jesus said both the Pharisees- meaning religious leaders and Herod-meaning government leaders- each have doctrine that leavens, poisons and ruins our ability to function as His disciples. Jesus said there is a tendency for bad religious people to team up with bad government people to come up with doctrine and concepts that undermine our ability to function as Christ’s disciples. We see such a coalition in Revelation chapter 13, where there are 2 beasts.
Revelation 13: 1-3 say & 4-8 says 1And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. 2… And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. 3…and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. 4And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”
Revelation 13: 11 – 12 tells us of a Second Beast, and says, 11Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,c and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast…
The 1st beast is a One-World, Trans-National Government that divides the world into 10 territorial horns and places over them 7 ruling heads, one or more of which will oversee more than one of the territories. Thus the 7 oversee 10 territories. The 2nd beast is a false religious system that looks like a lamb, but has 2 horns, meaning 2 subdivisions through which it operates, and it talks like a dragon, revealing that Satan speaks through both branches of that religious root.
What is significant is that the only thing the 2nd beast does is get the world to cooperate with and worship the political power of the first beast! Let me restate that: The primary activity of the false religions of the Global World Order is to get people to cooperate with the Satanically inspired government.
How that will happen is through the process of doctrinal teaching that will leaven what the Bible says, so religious people are deceived into cooperating with corrupt politicians and government.
What we see in Rev. 13 is unfolding even now, as the only religious leaders the main stream media routinely put on the nightly news are the ones who see eye to eye with the government’s anti-Biblical agenda, and mimic its policies.
By contrast discerning disciples see what leaven does, and they accurately apply Bible doctrine in ways that lift us in liberty.
