It’s that time of year again: the checklist of endless school supplies, back to school clothes shopping, extra goodies for the lunch boxes, a new haircut, bus schedules, and new teacher assignments…..summer’s over. No more sleeping in for the kiddos, no more pool trips, camping trips, outdoor fun in the sun. The regular routine starts. But wait! What’s missing from this checklist?
Here’s a checklist I recommend to BOTH parent & student: Wake up. Get on your knees. Thank God for a night’s rest. Praise God for a new day. Ask God to guide you throughout your day in all you see, say, hear and do. Read a few Psalms. Ask God to apply what you read from His word to your heart. This takes about 5 minutes!
Amazing. Five minutes putting God first every day. This routine is such a blessing that you will notice you will want to add more time for prayer and reading His Word. It’s because God is so desiring of a relationship with you, He will draw you to Himself. Did you know that God intends for us to put Him first? Of the Ten Commandments the first four put God First.
Commandment number ONE in Exodus 20:3 says “You shall have no other gods before me.” Commandment number TWO in Exodus 20:4-6 says “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them….” Commandment number THREE in Exodus 20:7 says “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain….” Commandment number FOUR in Exodus 20:8 says “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.”
Begin this new school year with a fresher start than ever before. Know that even your school supplies is a provision from God. In 1Timothy 6: 17 it says “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God WHO RICHLY PROVIDES US WITH EVERYTHING FOR OUR ENJOYMENT.” Everything is God’s first. Did you know that October 5th of this year is “Bring Your Bible To School Day?” It is sponsored by Focus on the Family. I suggest looking into this and preparing for a positive experience for your children. I don’t have to tell you that our schools are decaying with cultural relativism and government curriculum that is daunting to even the brightest student. The web site for more information isBringYourBible.org.
We welcome you to worship with us at our 10 AM service at the Youth for Christ Center each Sunday. Bring your children so they are equipped with the Word of God’s truth. Pastor Earl Wallace explains God’s Word line by line and brings forth its relevance in the 21st century. This will motivate & lift you up in liberty.
