If you haven’t started teaching your children the Ten Commandments, this is a good time to begin; it’s a new year and a time for a fresh start.
Proverbs 22:6 says “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Do not fail this task to teach without training. Show your children by Godly example the kind of Godly character you want them to develop and display.
Commandment number one in Exodus 20 verse 3 says “You shall have no other gods before me.” God’s spoken word says there is ONLY ONE GOD, other ‘gods’ are of man’s imagination and the deception of lying spirits. Psalm 14: 1 says “The fool hath said in his HEART, there is no God.” The psalmist did not say the fool has said in his head, it’s the fool’s HEART! It’s not that the fool can’t believe, he won’t believe. A man who denies God’s laws is a fool!
A child’s HEART is predisposed toward belief. When a child asks you a question about God, if your HEART is not grounded in His Word, you may be leading your children to fool-hearty ways of the atheist and not even know it!
Jesus said in Matthew 19:14 “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to me; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Children are hindered when they’re taught falsehoods of God’s creation in school. They are hindered when their parent or guardian overindulge in alcohol, pornography, swearing, and other sins. Matthew 12:34 says “You brood of vipers, how can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the HEART, the mouth speaks.” Putting these ‘pleasure gods’ first is a violation of God’s first Commandment, “Thou shall have no other gods before me”. Your children know whether you love God with all your heart; they want to see whether their parents love God enough to obey Him. Click To Tweet
Children live what they see at home, there are consequences to the next generation if your frame of mind is ungodly or if your HEART is not rooted or grounded in God’s Word. Your growth as a Christian is hindered and you are not having the type of influence the Holy Spirit wants you to have on your children.
Remember, God’s commands are not for our punishment but for our welfare. In Commandment number one, God is saying give me first place in your life. We must teach these commands to our children and teach them early; little by little as they are able to receive and understand it. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 says “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thine heart, and with all they soul and with all thy might.”
Your children know whether you love God with all your heart; they want to see whether their parents love God enough to obey Him. Childhood is the best time to begin training your children to live according to God’s Holy Word; the younger they are, the better. Provers 19:18 says “Chasten thy son while there is hope”. Children are always curious, always wanting to know why. Be ready to have the answer for them.
Spiritual training will lift your children up in liberty.
