RADIO SHOW FOR MAY 12, 2017-DRUG ADDICTION – REFORM YOUR LIFE

Welcome to the Newheart Commentary of The Lifting Us Up In Liberty Program

Just Say No! These three words were popularized decades ago by First Lady Nancy Reagan in the war against drugs.

Today, the drug epidemic is overwhelming! Treatment centers are filled with addicts. What has happened in today’s society that so many people are addicted to drugs? TV commercials at nauseam advertise drugs for the answer to all your ills.

Where do people get the money to buy  drugs? Where do the drugs come from? Who sells them the drugs? How many people on prescription  drugs are addicted? How many families have been affected with loved ones who have fallen prey to drug addiction and are in constant rehab or even died from overdose? Who’s making money selling these drugs and “laughing” (quote/unquote) all the way to the bank? WHY do they take drugs?

There are answers to all of these questions. And they all deal with sin. An alcoholic I knew said his one and only regret was ever taking his first drink. No doubt this speaks true for any addict who wished they just said no the first time!

The culture says “do what feels good.” Instant gratification. Be happy now. Be wealthy now. Get high now. But each day becomes a failure. Selfishness, lack of reasoning, lack of truth, take over.

Perhaps you may fall within the aforementioned statistics. You’re addicted. You’re financially broke due to addiction. You’re stealing to feed your habit. Maybe you sell drugs. Maybe you’re a professional writing unnecessary prescriptions, thus keeping the “patient”  addicted. You’re benefiting financially from selling, thus living a luxurious life. Something is wrong. Something is gravely missing in our culture.

God is missing. His 10 Commandments have been removed from the public square. Prayer is no longer permitted in schools. The manger scene is disappearing at Christmastime. Crosses are being removed because they’re offensive to others.

Take an inner heart inspection. Are you convicted of your wrong doing?  Do you feel helpless? Hopeless? God wants to to transform us. Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…..”  Hebrews 3:1 says in part “….fix your thoughts on Jesus…whom we confess..” Hebrews 12:2 says in part “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus…”  Renewing our minds, fixing our thoughts & our eyes  on Jesus is the right prescription to keep our focus Heavenward.

Why not set spiritual goals? Decide to clean up all the clutter from your life. Ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. Confess to Him all your sins. Become that family man or woman that prays, reads the Bible, attends a solid Bible church, lives a life honorable to God. It just takes one heart at a time and our forgiving God will reform our lives and our country in an amazingly liberating way.
