I prepare this commentary days following the massacre in Las Vegas. It grieves us that people could do such evil things. Evil has been in the heart of mankind since the sin of Adam. Proverbs 11:19 says “…..But he who pursues evil goes to his death.” Psalm 34:16 says “The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.”[bctt tweet=”Colossians Chapter 3 gives rules for holy living. In Matthew chapter 24, Jesus warns of signs of the end of the age. In verse 12, Jesus said “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm will be saved.”
We see evil around us every day… We try to protect our children and grandchildren from all sorts of evil. It’s important to teach them Biblical truths right from a very young age. It’s imperative to teach and live by example good Godly character, morals, values, & being respectful to others. Read and memorize the 10 Commandments in Exodus Chapter 20: 1-17. Write them on poster board and hang them in your house for all to see.
Colossians Chapter 3 gives rules for holy living. We are to set our hearts and minds on things above, not on earthly things. We are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. We are to forgive one another, as the Lord forgave us. Verse 14 says “And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Verse 17 says “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Colossians Chapter 4 instructs us to devote ourselves to prayer. It instructs us to be wise in the way we act toward outsiders. It instructs that our conversation be full of grace, seasoned with salt.
The book of Colossians has 4 short chapters. It is beautiful to read and apply to your life. In summary, it says, “when you’ve got Jesus, you’ve got everything.” Do you have Jesus? Have you asked Him to be your Lord & Savior? He’s waiting to hear from you.
We never know when our last day will be. There’s only one of two places our souls live on after death…Heaven or Hell. It’s your choice. Won’t you choose Jesus today? He died on that cross to take your sin debt and paid it in full. That is amazing love! That is amazing redemption! Jesus is our ransom from Heaven.
Admit you’re a sinner: Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, BUT the GIFT of God is eternal life IN Christ Jesus Our Lord.” Romans 10:17 says “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:9 says “If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Now that’s the promise of salvation! Won’t you pray these verses and truly receive Jesus as your Lord & Savior? Join us this Sunday for expository preaching from the Bible where every detail of God’s Word will lift everyone up in liberty.[email-download-link namefield=”YES” id=”142″]
