I believe it is important for God’s Church to acknowledge that the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution is evidence that the concept of “Separation of Church and State” neither is Biblical not does it actually appear in the US Constitution.  I believe it is imperative that, we God’s people – the ones who are called by His name, quit quoting the phrase “Separation of Church and State” as if it is scripture!

Here are 3 reasons why:

  • The phrase “Separation of Church and State” denies the fact that the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution conjoins 5 rights beginning with “freedom of religion” because Biblical Christianity is supposed to guide the other 4 elements of the amendment. In other words we should not be in denial of the fact that the 1st Amendment is constructed so that a) the freedom to express Biblical Christianity publicly informs our national conscience and is what should guide and motivate our b) speech, c) the way the press should conduct itself; d) the reasons why we assemble, and e) the reasons why we petition the government if it fails to treat “we the people’ according to the 10 Commandments.
  • The phrase “Separation of Church and State” gives people the false impression that America should operate like China and Russia, where the government is under no obligation to treat their citizens according to the 10 Commandments – or any other Biblical principle. It gives the impression that government is supposed to operate completely free from Biblical values — as if God will not judge the nations, per Psalm 82:8. The phrase “Separation of Church and State” communicates the exact opposite of what the Declaration of Independence means, when it says governments are instituted to cooperate with God and secure the rights He gives people, such as those imbedded in the 10 Commandments, which are the right to not murdered, not sexually molested, not to be lied to nor have government covet our belongings.
  • The phrase “Separation of Church and State” denies there are many benefits that accrue to societies that operate as Christian cultures with the Bible as the foundation of their ethics – the set of moral principles that govern both the individual and the group’s expected behaviors. The concept of win-win in the market place is rooted in the Biblical concept of love your neighbor as you love yourself (Lev 19: 18, Mark 12:33, and Matt 19:19), and do onto others as you would have the do unto you (Luke 6:31 & Mat 7:12) All business dealings are rooted in the concept of “Thou shall not steal (Exodus 20:15 and Duet. 5:19) so we understand the significance of exchanging money for honestly and accurately delivered goods and services.

When we as representatives of God, and as citizens of a nation that actually have the US Declaration of Independence and the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution as our founding documents, quote the phrase “Separation of Church and State” as if it is scripture, we mislead others about what God has done for the USA.  We deny that God actually has the power to work through people like America’s Founding Fathers to establish His principles as the guiding ethics of a nation.  We deny that America was a nation that God lifted up in liberty.
